One-of-a-kind facility
A unique new outpatient care centre in Surrey is redefining health care delivery for Canada while improving access to services for families in the Fraser Valley. Officially opened on May 30, the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre is B.C.’s first stand-alone outpatient facility. What makes the centre unique is that it offers a range of outpatient services including day surgery, diagnostics and imaging (MRI, CT, scans, biopsies) with community services (specialized clinics and programs) all within one building.

Redefining the Skyline
A Vancouver landmark is undergoing a dramatic makeover and it’s requiring a truly global effort to make the transformation a reality. It’s hard to miss the renovation work currently underway at BC Place. The iconic white dome is gone and in its place are massive steel arms reaching 14 storeys up into the sky. Collaborative Effort
A small army of contractors are busy building a new secure, state-of-the-art correctional facility in the north end of Edmonton.The massive project involves the construction of a 650,000 square foot multi-building complex, designed to accommodate an inmate population of 1,944 (male and female). With a footprint equivalent of eight CFL football fields, the new Edmonton Remand Centre will be the largest facility of its kind in Canada and is currently one of the country’s largest infrastructure projects.

Inspired Research
The world’s largest mammal has found a new home at the UBC campus. The massive 85-foot-long blue whale skeleton exhibit is the centrepiece of the new $50 million Beaty Biodiversity Centre, which officially opened in May 2010. Designed by Patkau Architects and constructed by Scott Construction, the facility houses both the Biodiversity Research Centre and the Beaty Biodiversity Museum. It brings together world renowned scientists and their teams under one roof as well as a unique collection of more than two million specimens.
